If you ask me, we can all use more meat metaphors
Found Kelly’s blog from her comment on the previous article. To wit:
Strategy and focus provide juicy steak in times of economic gristle.
Trying to please everyone is wasteful, like giving heavy whipping cream to a dog. The dog gets a stomachache, you regret it later.
Of course, if you read between the lines, you will regret it later because THE DOG WILL PUKE OVER EVERYTHING.
Take my word on this.
Continuing:
Finding the right fit means nothing goes to waste. So before you write that amazing title, be sure you’re focusing your event, white paper, and your business. Companies can’t afford to work with generalists. And you can’t afford to be one.
Ooh, fightin’ words to live by and I cannot agree more.
To which I will add, if you try to be palatable to everyone, you will end up tough, grey, and chewy.
Just like the way Austrians like to cook steak.
Yuck.
Amy, thanks for the nice words! I am LOVING your time-tracking app, by the way. And this is precisely why. You’re not trying to be all things to all people, adding features willy nilly to attract the entire universe. Instead, you’ve created this incredibly useful app that feels like it was created just for me. Exactly when I needed it: I’ve completely stopped billing by the hour, so no need for an invoicing feature, and I’ve realized that I don’t really know anymore what I’m spending my time on, and I don’t want to lump billable and unbillable together. I had been trying to do this manually but it was a pain. Too many bubble charts and headache-inducing spreadsheets. And I also realized that multitasking is costing me money, and your app won’t let me do it because everything is rounded up to 15 minutes. Plus, it’s pretty to look at. You didn’t try to please everyone, and in the process, you’ve made at least one raving fan. Thank you!
